TriSquare has revolutionized 2-way radio communication with eXtreme Radio ServiceTM (eXRSTM). eXtreme Radio Service (eXRS) two-way radios use proprietary Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) in the ISM band (900 MHz frequencies). This FHSS system combines the power of digital technology with narrow band FM modulation technique. Merging the two technologies facilitates a radio communications system that maintains a narrow band base signal to ensure for maximum usable range within a given dB power budget, comparable to traditional fixed frequency narrow band FM radios, but with the added benefit of wide band digital security and privacy provided by the frequency hopping spread spectrum algorithm. Maintaining the information signal as narrow band FM modulation centered on discrete frequencies allows for a large pool of non-overlapping hopping frequencies to draw upon within a given section of the radio frequency (RF) spectrum. The pseudo-random drawing of the hopping frequencies spreads the total signal power equally over the entire bandwidth of the RF spectrum used, which ensures minimal interference between many simultaneous, independent users. Interference Free is a major advantage that eXRS has over existing FRS and GMRS radios. Based on a contracted study from the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of a major university, more than 100,000 eXRS users within talk range can enjoy uninterrupted communications. Whereas, FRS/GMRS quickly becomes unusable with just a few tens of users within range of each other. Bottom-line is that the eXRS two-way radios provide private communications in areas where FRS/GMRS conversations can be congested or impossible. Depending on which model you choose, your eXRS radio will have 1,000, 10,000, or all 10 Billion eXRS channels available for your use. Each radio offers Voice-operated transmission (VOX) for hands-free operation with headset compatibility.

Sporting the REALTREE AP HD CAMO pattern, the Motorola Talkabout MR355R is the ultimate communication tool for the serious outdoor enthusiast. Loaded with every possible radio feature, you know that you are ready for the extreme outdoors. Lightweight and rugged, with extra large buttons to help you operate even with gloves on.The MR355R also includes an emergency alert feature, allowing you to enjoy your escape to the great outdoors with confidence that others can be informed of any dangers that may come your way. When the alert button is activated, the radio transmits an alert siren followed by transmission of spoken or incidental sounds. This allows you to send the signal to other radios and warn of impending danger. The MR355R also features a built-in LED flashlight for peace-of-mind during evening adventures or unexpected emergencies and power outages. And thanks to the built-in repeater channels, the MR355 works well with a local repeater station to carry your signal further. Take advantage of this value-added feature by switching to GMRS channels 15R-22R, but don’t forget you’ll need a ***GMRS license and an accessible repeater station to take advantage of this unique feature. You can even add stealth and fun to your outdoor adventure by masking your radio’s normal ring tone under the guise of a quacking duck, a cackling goose, a gobbling turkey, a bugling elk or a howling coyote. You will find this a helpful way to blend into the untamed habitat of the wild. Or if that doesn’t work for you the VibraCall silent vibrating ringer is especially useful for locations where ringing can be intrusive. This feature is also great when noise from a sporting event would drown out your ring tone.

Thank goodness I got these cheap! I realize that they probably wouldn't reach 35 miles, but it was a little ridiculous when they wouldn't reach 2 miles in a vehicle. Granted we are out in the hills in C. Nebraska, and in a vehicle, but they are by no means close to mountains, and the vehicle couldn't have interferred that much. If you want to get more range out of them you need to be outside, any little thing interferres with the reception, just try listening to the NOAA station and put your hand on the antenna and you will see they are sensitive. The key is being outside of the house or vehicle with no interference and you will get a few mile out of them. Other reviews I read have had better results, but I would not pay the full price for these, Cabelas has them for around $114.00, and I paid around $69.00 on amazon. They are not bad radios, its just that the advertisement for their range and so forth is drastically blown out of proportion, granted their are probably no other radios on the market that would do better, so they are good for outdoor comm. within a few miles and the NOAA is a nice feature.

Average Reviews:

These radios are small, solid, and have great range. We bought them to use at a lake house to talk between the house and the dock and between the house and the boat. Great range, even when not line of sight.

Our concern was with water and the damage that our young boys can inflict on electronic devices. I knew that these radios weren't waterproof, but were only weather resistant. Well our oldest son dropped one in the toilet by accident. (I'd rather not know why he needed a radio on the potty.) I immediately took the battery out and rinsed the whole unit under tap water. I then used Clorox hard surface cleaner on it and rinsed that off after a minute. After a day of drying, it would power up, but the LCD was funky. Two more days of drying, and it works like a charm.

I would give it 5 stars, but the battery life is worse than an iPhone. You'll get a half day at best before recharging. I do like that you could put in AA batteries in a pinch, however.

I cannot speak to the quality of the device, but only that we are unable to use ours because nowhere on this product's page here is there an indication that the device requires an FCC license. YOU MUST GET AN FCC LICENSE! Go to the FCC website and locate one of the "Frequency Coordinators" to complete the application process if you decide that a license is worth the effort and added cost (over $400 half of which is the fee for a 10-year license). Do a web search for the CLS-1110 manual to get detailed specs for easing the application process. I wouldn't have bought this radio if I knew a license was required.

I was pleasantly surprised at the reception of this radio. I live in the western suburbs of Chicago. I listen to AM during the day and I'm able to hear clearly stations other radios have trouble receiving.

It will also come in handy when it is used for two way communication with my handheld GMRS sets.

The ability to be powered by supplied rechargeable batterys and standard AA's as well as supplied AC wallwart is a big plus.

All the channels work well and are fully usable. The price is right as well

All in all a first rate product.
